Apartheid to Freedom – The Rich Perspectives of South African Artists

Showcasing the vibrant traditions of South Africa

Apartheid to Freedom The African diaspora began centuries ago, fueled by the forced migrations of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. These migrations resulted in millions of Africans making new homes in the Americas, as well as in Europe and the Middle East. Although they were displaced from their homes, Africans still hung on to their traditions and beliefs.

The cultural and economic survival of African immigrants then and now remains crucial to saving their ancient traditions. Color Me Africa seeks to educate, enrich and create a deep awareness and appreciation about the cradle of civilization that is Mother Africa and its cultural contribution to humanity.

2012 marked the 100-year anniversary of the fight for freedom in South Africa. The past exhibition of Color Me Africa is a powerful illustration

that contrasts the past with the present. Although this project has a political component it’s important to realize the incredible impact apartheid had on the lives of the people of South Africa.

Our message is one of healing through art. We focus on the spirited artwork of talented South African artists who portray their culture and traditions in a way the rest of the world should see.
